Ferrer named Spanish Player of the Year

World No.5 David Ferrer has been named Spanish Player of the Year, an award presented by the Association of Spanish Tennis Writers.

“This season has been the best of my career and I will never forget it for many reasons,” said Ferrer. “It was a shame to lose the Davis Cup final, but when you fight as hard as you can and accept you can’t do any more, the defeats are less painful; we could not have given any more.”

2012 was a successful year for the Spaniard after winning 7 ATP World Tour Titles, more than any other player, including his win at the Paris Masters.

Ferrer also reached the quarter-finals of every grand slam this year and managed to reach the semi-final at Roland Garros and the US Open. Ferrer had great Davis Cup results for Spain, collecting both rubbers for his nation in a 3-2 defeat to the Czech Republic in last month's final.
