Heather Watson advances, Robson defeated

The British number one Heather Watson has advanced to the second round of the ASB Classic in Auckland after beating fifth seed Sorana Cirste.

Sorana Cirste retired after losing the first set 6-3.

Elsewhere at the Shenzhen Open in China, British number two Laura Robson was defeated by Monica Niculescu 6-2 6-3 in the second round.
