Murray safely through to the third round

Three-time finalist Andy Murray is safely through to the third round of the Australian Open after defeating qualifier Vincent Millot.

The Briton won 6-2 6-2 7-5, a convincing straight sets victory against the world ranked 267.

Thankfully for Murray the match was played under the cover of darkness, still temperatures were at 28C in a humid Rod Laver Arena.

Prior to the match Murray admitted he didn't know much about his French opponent, who had his first Grand Slam win in round one.

The 4th seed will face Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the third round on Saturday.

The Frenchman wasn't used to use the show court setting, at first this showed as Murray raced away with the first two sets. But, in the third, he put his nerves aside and started to challenge the Briton. However, the challenge didn't last as Murray won 23 points in a row to end the Frenchmans hopes of advancing any further in Melbourne.

"I didn't really care about winning 23 points in a row," Murray said afterwards.

"I wanted to win the match. I'm glad I finished it there, because it was very, very hard conditions. Even in the evening it was so humid.

"After they closed the roof they obviously had the rain and the thunderstorms - it changed the way the court and the balls played a lot.

"It was heavier and a lot of balls went into the net. It slowed everything down a bit. I just was glad to get off. I'm still pouring with sweat now."

Play had been suspended during the afternoon after the 'extreme heat policy' was implemented as the temperature reached 43C.
