American tennis player Serena Williams has been awarded WTA Tour Player of the Year for the fourth time.It comes in a year which started badly for Williams after she was knocked out of the Australian Open in the fourth round. But, the world no. 3 improved her game dramatically and went on to win Wimbledon, the US Open and Olympic Gold in 2012.
Williams previously won the WTA title in 2002, 2008, and 2009.
Serena Williams is only one of three tennis players who have won award more than two times, former winners include Steffi Graf and Martina Navaratilova.
