The world number one has had her dreams of winning a sixth Wimbledon title smashed after Lisicki took the 6-2 1-6 6-4 victory on Centre Court.
Williams has joined a list of high profile players who have been knocked out of the tournament including Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal.
On her way to taking the first set, Lisicki broke twice and took the opportunity after a wave of unforced errors from Williams.

You could see the determination in William's eyes has she fought back in the second set. The American won 14 points in a row, making no unforced errors to close out the second set 6-1.
In the third set Williams took the early lead 3-0, but Lisicki was going down without a fight.
The German got the better of three breaks in a row as she fought back from 4-2 down, thrilling the 15,000 spectators on Centre Court.
At 4-4 Williams was facing break points, being pushed around the court by Lisicki who has always said grass is her favourite surface.
The German's service game to her rescue as she was brought back to 30-30 and double faulted giving Serena an opportunity.
An intense rally was played as Lisicki had a second chance to clinch the match. Forehands and backhands were smashed into Serena's baseline but it was too much for the defending champion.
