Andy Murray loses for the first time since Wimbledon

Andy Murray has lost since his grand slam at Wimbledon in May after Ernests Gulbis proved too strong in their third round match of the Rogers Cup.

The world number 38 Latvian pulled through the match 6-4 6-3 in one hour 23 minutes to reach the quarter-finals in Montreal.

"Obviously I'd have liked to have done better," said Murray.

"The goal is to try and peak at the US Open," Murray said after his singles defeat.

"But to do that you need to make sure you prepare yourself well.

"There's obviously some things for me to work on, but I think that will come with playing matches."

Murray later enjoyed second round success in the doubles tournament with his partner and fellow Briton Colin Fleming. The duo defeated Leander Paes and Radek Stephanek 6-3 6-1 in 61 minutes.
