Maria Sharapova joins NBC for Winter Olympics

NBC adds Maria Sharapova to it's presenting team for next year's Sochi Winter Olympics.

Sharapova who was a flag bearer for Russia at the Summer Olympics last July will serve as a commentator and give insight into Russia's first Winter games.

"Maria transcends sports as one of the world's most recognizable stars," Jim Bell, Executive Producer of NBC Olympics, said. "Growing up in Sochi until she was six years old and with family and friends still living in the area, Maria will offer a unique and personal perspective on a place she knows so well." 

As one of tennis' top names, Sharapova was an ambassador for Sochi when they first made the bid to host the Winter Olympics.
