Although Nadal leads their head-to-head record by 9 to 2, on those two occasions Monfils was just too much for Nadal.
And if it seemed your Saturday couldn't get any better there's another mouth-watering clash in Melbourne. Milos Raonic takes on Grigor Dimitrov, both of them the future stars of the game, both of them evenly matched making this fourth round tie one to keep your eye on.
The two will meet on Margaret Court Arena, the match will be reduced to the raw power of the 196cm Raonic serve and forehand versus the all-round game of the 190cm Dimitrov, featuring his sweeping, single-handed background.
Last year's finalist Andy Murray is also in action as looks to sweep past Feliciano Lopez, Murray leads their head-to-head record 7-0.
Jeff Guadagno's Tips:
Watch for Rafael Nadal and Gael Monfils. Not calling an upset here, but it's bound to be an entertaining match up. The two played recently in the final at Doha in early January. Monfils took Rafa 3 sets, but Rafa prevailed. Regardless of results Monfils is always rather entertaining. Make sure you catch this one.
The 24 year old Donald Young who has had an up and down career, recently fought his way back up through the Challengers Circuit has a nice chance to make the round of 16 against Kei Nishokori. Watch for an upset here.
Clash of the Frenchmen: Jo-Willie Tsonga takes on fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon, who has been on life support the first two rounds and refuses to go down. Should make for an amusing third round match.
If Roberto Bautista Agut can return serve and strike the ball anywhere near the way he did against DelPo we can be in for an "upset" over Benoit Paire.
Not much on the women's side from what I can see, Dominika Cibulkova takes on Carla Suarez Navarro which could be an interesting match. Expect Cibulkova to take this one.
As for upsets: Garbine Muguruza is playing really well and has a solid shot at upsetting former number 1 player in the world Caroline Wozniacki. I say Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has an outside shot of upsetting Aggie Radwanska and same for Elina Svitolina over Sloane Stephens. I'm not expecting much here though.
