Day 5 at the Australian Open

Day 5 in Melbourne saw two Aussie's in action with two very different stories to be told. One went through, the other went home.

Ivanovic [14] beat Stosur [17] 6-7 (8-10) 6-4 6-2
The first story begins as the temperatures dropped and the rain poured, it was home favourite Sam Stosur who edged a thrilling first set. The crowd were feeling positive, and so was Stosur.

Former one world number one Ivanovic broke serve once in the second set and twice in the decider as she wrapped up victory with a simple volley into an open court.

Dellacqua beat Zheng 6-2 6-4
It was another story for Aussie Casey Dellacqua, unlike her fellow countryman she would be continuing her campaign at the Australian Open.

"It was a match of the highest quality. She is a very tough opponent and I just hung in there," said Ivanovic, who reached the Australian Open final in 2008.

"Winning in Auckland gave me a lot of confidence and I'm looking forward to the challenge of playing Serena."

Li [4] beat Safarova [26] 1-6 7-6 6-3
Two-time finalist Li Na came back from the point of no return as she avoided becoming the highest profile casualty of the first week in Melbourne.

In a match lasting two hours and 37 minutes, Li saved a Safarova match point and fought back to dominate the tie-break. Safarova hasn't beaten a player in the top 10 in her career.

In the third set Li had a point to prove, and she did, Li broke the Czech in the eighth game and Safarova had no answer.

Other results from day 5:
Kerber [9] beat Riske 6-3 6-4
Berdych [7] beat Dzumhur 6-4 6-2 6-2
Robredo [17] beat Gasquet 2-6 7-5 6-4 7-6
Fognini [15] beat Querrey 7-5 6-4 6-4
