Fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro has said he will remain upbeat after a shock defeat to Tobias Kamke at the Sony Open Tennis on Friday.
"I was excited to play here, but it was just a bad day and he played really well," said the Argentine, who reached the final of the year's first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells last weekend.
"He took the chance to beat me tonight, and I think that's it....he deserved to win."
Del Potro said that while he tried to be aggressive, he made many mistakes, particularly with his forehand.
He added that his early exit would allow him to give his right wrist, which was operated on in 2010, time to rest. "[It's] important to be ready and be 100 per cent in my next tournament," said the 24 year old.
Friday's defeat took del Potro's 2013 season win-loss record to 16-5. At No. 89 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, Kamke is the lowest-ranked opponent the Argentine has lost to this year.
