Rafael Nadal beats Roger Federer to reach the final

Rafael Nadal has cruised past Roger Federer in Melbourne to reach the final of the Australian Open in straight sets.

The world number one came through 7-6 6-3 6-3 to reach the final where he'll play Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka.

The 27-year-old will be the strong favourite going into match taking into account his dominant form,  and the fact that it's Wawrinka's first Grand Slam final.

In their 33rd meeting and despite the blister on Nadal's left hand, the Spaniard appeared to grow stronger throughout the match.

Going into the match Federer appeared to be in form, built around some excellent serving, but he was put under constant pressure by Nadal.

The world number one missed two backhands on break points in game seven, both men were slightly struggling, but the Spaniard dominated the tie-break.

A volley from Federer hit the net, despite cutting a 5-1 deficit to 5-4, Nadal closed out the set.

Nadal powered through the opening games of the second set with some huge forehands, followed by an unexpected double-handed backhand drop shot, but then the Spaniard took a medical time out.

Federer saved three more break points at 2-2, but he was undone two games later when a breathtaking angled backhand and a heavy forehand into the corner put Nadal 4-2 in front, and on his way to a two-set lead.

The Swiss player looked forlorn throughout most of the match, but there was a spark of positivity when Federer finally broke to hit straight back, and some serve volleying helped him into a 3-2 lead, but Nadal was soon on the way back.

At 3-3 there was too much pressure placed on Federer when a forehand flew long to give up his serve, and Nadal breezed to victory with his fourth break of the day thanks to some incredible forehand shots.
