Nadal to make Abu Dhabi come back

Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he will return to the game after suffering from knee problems, at the Mubadala Championship in Abu Dhabi from 27-29 December.

The former world number one had been suffering from a partial tear in his patella tendon and has not played a match since June we he crashed out of round 2 in Wimbledon.

On Tuesday Nadal took to Facebook to update his fans by saying: "Can't wait to get back on court in Abu Dhabi at the end of the month. I won in 2010 and 2011 - would love to get my hands on the trophy again!"

Since suffering from a knee injury the Spaniard has slipped to fourth in the world rankings. This isn't the first time knee issues have affected the 26 year-old. In 2009 Nadal was unable to retain his Wimbledon champions title due to tendinitis.

This year Nadal has missed the Olympic Games and the US Open and last week spoke with caution about his return to the game. "I will only come back when I am fit. I won't come back worrying about my knee," he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"The results will not worry me in the first tournaments back. We are in the last stage of the recovery and I want to recover as soon as possible but I will not rush back and then have to stop again in six months or a year's time."
