Wimbledon reports record profits

The Lawn Tennis Association has reported that this summer's Wimbledon Championship saw profits increase by 7%, a record for the tournament.

The LTA said profit's for this years Championship were £37.8m. The organisation invests the surplus back into British tennis.


In the past year, the LTA has invested £12.1m in developing British tennis players and more than £17m on encouraging people to take up the sport.

The LTA say's that the number of active tennis players was growing.

A Sport England survey reveals that adult participants in the sport has increased by 11% from last year's levels to 417,700.

It is thought that Andy Murray's success in 2012, following his US Open and Olympic's win was a key factor in the increase of people playing tennis.
