In their four previous meetings Cibulkova had never won, but finally in California it was her time and defeated Radwanska in a 3-6 6-4 6-4 victory.
"The big difference between Sydney and today was I made
the first game - after I won that, I looked at my coach and thought, 'Here we
go, I'm here, it's going to be good today,'" Cibulkova said.
"It's a
big deal for me today. I had never beaten Aga before. She's a really tough
competitor and I had to earn every point myself. It was tough mentally and
physically out there, so I'm really happy I won."
Radwanska appeared to dominant from the start of the match, she won the first set on the strength of two breaks 6-3.
Moving into the second set and again Radwanska's momentum continued as she made a 3-2 lead and looked to create a third break against Cibulkova.
But Cibulkova found the range of her forehand and she felt more comfortable. She took the next four of five games clinching the set 6-3.
Cibulkova seemed erratic in the opening points of the deciding set and Radwanska ceased the opportunity. The Pole went up 4-2 in the third set, you could be forgiven for thinking the match was now Radwanska's. But Cibulkova rolled out four games in a row, she was truly on fire and defeating Radwanska in two and a half hours.
