Andy Murray fought hard and won the match on his fourth championship point to win his first Wimbledon title.
In straight sets Djokovic was defeated 6-4 7-5 6-4 to give Murray is second grand slam title in his career so far.
With an atmosphere second to none and with the majority of the crowd supporting Murray, the support would sure give the Scotsman a boost on centre court.
"It feels slightly different to last year. Last year was one of the toughest moments of my career, so to manage to win the tournament today...
"It was an unbelievably tough match, so many long games." Murray said following his emphatic win.
The top seeds battled out on court for three hours and 10 minutes in sweltering temperatures to be crowned Wimbledon champion, a commitment many people couldn't manage.

Erratic play from Djokovic gave Murray the advantage, the number two seed eventually converted his seventh break point after three hectic games that took 20 minutes.
The Serb as ever fought back, his dogged determination emerged and recovered the break to love. An error from Djokovic saw Murray move clear to 4-3.
Murray opened his serve with two double faults in a nervy game for the Scotsman. But Murray brought himself back from three break points and served out the set to love.
The top seed got the better of two rallies approaching 30 strokes as he broke on his way to a 4-1 lead, and looked on course to level at 15-30 in the following game, but Murray would not give it up.
Murray put the pressure on Djokovic once again, the Serb had another double fault to give up his advantage in game seven.
At 5-5 Djokovic had ran out of challenges, following a tirade with the line call.
Back Djokovic came, throwing in drop shots to get the Briton on the run and reeling off four straight games on his way to a 4-2 lead, but Murray was not to be denied.
Murray and Djokovic were tied at 4-4, another error was forced from Djokovic to allow Murray to move ahead 5-4.
Hearts began beating faster, the centre court crowd were moving even closer to the edges of their sets, the hopes of a nation resting in one man.
All Murray had to do was serve for the title, that wasn't as easy as it sounds. But after 10 minutes with nerves on breaking point, a forehand from Murray was netted by Djokovic, the Scotsman was the new Wimbledon Champion.
