Lisicki faced a tough opponent in the form of Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska who was a former finalist at the All England Club.

After a one set lead at one point during the match, The German pulled through the third set to win 6-4 2-6 9-7.

An emotional Sabine Lisicki said: "It was unbelievable, the last few games were so exciting," she told BBC Sport. "Agnieszka played so well, it was a battle and I'm so happy to have won it.

"I didn't know how it would end. I fought with all my heart but I believed I could win no matter what the score was."
Lisicki will now face France's Marion Bartoli in the final on Saturday who breezed through her semi-final against Kirsten Flipkens 6-1 6-2.

Sabine got off to a comfortable start in the opener, her rhythm that she found when defeating Serena Williams seemed to return. But in the second set the errors began to unravel and Lisicki found herself in difficulty.
Lisicki's game began to crumble when Radwanska's serve began to dictate, The Pole was on top now.
Radwanska pulled clear 3-0 in the third set, her sixth game in succession. But another surge of power from Lisicki found the pole at 5-4 and the German was serving for the match.
Radwanska held her nerve as she found herself saving two break points at 6-6.
Lisicki had another chance to serve for the match, the German fired a forehand down the line on her second match point and fell to the ground in celebration.
