Wimbledon: 17.2 million tune in to see Andy Murray win

A peak of 17.2 million people tuned into watch Andy Murray become Britain's first Men's Singles Champion in 77 years at Wimbledon.

The full programme on BBC One averaged an admirable 12.09 million between 1 and 6pm. Britain was gripped to their TV screens despite the sweltering temperatures outside.

The Wimbledon Men's Singles final becomes the most watched programme of the year so far in the UK as millions witnessed sporting history.
