The world ranked no.18 breezed through the first round despite the scorching temperatures on day 1, she defeated Laura Robson 6-3 6-0.
Flipkens was dominant from the outset, introducing a range of slices, short angles and heavy topspin groundstrokes, Robson simply wasn't ready and responded with a wave of unforced errors.
Robson produced 15 unforced errors, compared to Flipkens' three in dropping the opening set in 26 minutes.
In the second set things still weren't going well for Robson; Flipkens broke serve in the second game and aced her British opponent out wide to move ahead 3-0.
The match was still not going Robsons way, she hit a forehand wide and long to give Flipkens a 4-0 lead. After creating a beautiful point in the fifth game which dragged Flipkens off court, she volleyed the short lofted reply several metres long of the baseline.
A forehand passing shot brought the crowd back to the game and leveled at 30-30 with Flipkens. When serving to keep herself in the match, Robson hit another error- her 32nd of the match- two points later ended the contest.
Flipkens will either play Australian wildcard Casey Dellacqua or Vera Zvonareva in the second round.
