Wawrinka sets up a clash with Djokovic

Eighth seed Stanislas Wawrinka has knocked Tommy Robredo out of the Australian Open in a straight sets win.

Wawrinka's 6-3 7-6 7-6 win means that he's set-up a tasty quarter-final clash with defending champion Novak Djokovic.

If we go back to 2013, we witnessed the fourth round match of Wawrinka and Djokovic- the Serb on that occasion found a way past the brilliant shot making of Wawrinka at the Australian Open.

Although the head-to-head statistics are stacked in Djokovic's favour, 15-2, the two matches that mattered came in grand slams last year.

After the brilliance of the above mentioned Australian Open tie, the pair fought again in the semi-finals of the US Open where again, Djokovic prevailed in five sets; perfect shot-making again the stand out point of that clash.

But, back to the present and it was Wawrinka who dominated the first set of his fourth round tie. It seemed he was in a rush to get back to his hotel taking the first set in just 30 minutes at 6-3.

However, the last two sets were a different story, Robredo was prepared to go the distance to win. Although the Spaniard was prepared to fight, it was Wawrinka's night. He claimed the last two sets on tie-breaks to clinch his place in the quarter-finals.
