World No. 116 Steve Darcis has stunned Rafeal Nadal after defeating the Spaniard in straight sets on court No.1.
The Belgian player has never defeated one of the world's top players but recorded a 7-6 7-6 6-4 to go through to the second round of Wimbledon.
Nadal has lost early two years in a row at the grass court championships after Lukas Rosol defeated him in the second round last year.
The former Wimbledon champion saved four set points in the second set tie-break and then failed to capitalise before Darcis claimed it at the fifth opportunity.
The adrenaline flowing through Darcis' body seemed to remove any sign of nerves as he broke in the first game of the third set. Before the crowd knew it Darcis was serving for the game and condemned Nadal to his first, first round defeat at a grand slam.
